Royal Philharmonic with Curtis Phill Hsu
Tickets are already selling fast for Curtis Phill Hsu‘s prizewinner’s concert with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Cadogan Hall in central London on 26 September. The RPO have called Curtis ‘a star in the making’, and are delighted to showcase him in this first major London concert since winning the competition in March.
Either side of the Schumann, the rest of the programme offers a fabulous Romantic treat. Mendelssohn’s ‘Scottish’ Symphony was conceived at twilight as the composer wandered the ruins of Holyrood Abbey in Edinburgh, and perfectly evokes a sweeping musical drama of mist-covered moors and warring clans. And to kick things off, Wagner’s Overture to Rienzi is even more over the top: a rip-roaring musical swashbuckler inspired by a tale of bloody rebellion amid the ruins of Rome.
