LOOKING BACK ON THE 2022 HASTINGS INTERNATIONAL PIANO CONCERTO COMPETITION
In 2022 after a Covid-forced reschedule we were delighted to welcome back to Hastings 45 of the finest young pianists from all over the world for the 16th Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition.
This 16th edition of the competition saw a few changes from previous editions. For the first time we were welcomed to the Rye Creative Centre for Stage 1, before moving back to the White Rock Theatre, our spiritual home, for Stage 2, the semi-finals and finals.
As we look for ways to grow the competition we founded a new orchestra, the Royal College of Music Prince Consort Orchestra. This orchestra made up of recent graduates of the Royal College of Music provided an excellent addition to the Semi-Finals.
We were thrilled to be once again joined by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the expert baton of Rory Macdonald. Shunta Morimoto, aged just 17 wowed the jury with his performances throughout the competition and took home the first prize and Molly Townson memorial trophy.
